Department Will Aid College Soil Work
(Special) KAIKOIIE, This Day. An encouraging reply has been received by the principal of the Northland Agricultural and Technical College. Kaikohc. Mr N. P. Pitcaithly. to a letter he had written earlier to the Department of Agriculture. Wellington, outlining his aims and objectives in regard to agricultural activities.
Mr Pitcaithly said that he and his highly qualified staff anticipated that, under their direction, the agricultural pupils would carry out considerable experimental work on the three types of soil contained in the college’s adjoining farm area—light volcanic, alluvial and pipeclay. These soils were representative of much of the farming land in Northland and the practical results of the experiments, quite apart front the value of the instruction and experience the pupils would gain, would be of benefit to the North.
The acting-Director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture (Mr J. W. Woodcock) replied that he would be most happy to cooperate with the college in its endeavours and experimental work. “I feel the project will produce most valuable results,” Mr Woodcock added.
