Communist Threat To Tsingtao City
(11.30 a.m.) NANKING, Mar. Tiie Government applied stringent emergency measures, including a .10 o’clock curfew, as crowds of refugees moved into Tsingtao city, Shantung province, in face of the onward sweep of the Communist armies.
(United States naval and marine forces are stationed in Tsingtao, where naval forces have been training Chinese sailors). Government authorities expressed confidence that they could hold Tsingtji, which is mainly defended by the 54th Army.
General Wang Yao-wu is reported to be rushing reinforcements to Tsingtao from central Shantung. Railway traffic from Tsingtao is running only as far as Kiaochow. 10 miles to the north-west. The Central News said Red forces had broken into Kaomi, G2 miles northwest of Tsingtao.
