(Rec. 1 p.m.) JERUSALEM, Mar. 7. Gunmen opened fire on the Rishon le Zion police station near Tel Aviv and attacked a military jeep 300 yards from the station with machine-gun bursts.
Police and troops gave chase, but the attackers escaped through a nearby orange grove. One British officer and one British soldier were injured when a landmine blew up a military staff car on the Haifa-Tel Aviv road. It is officially stated that 32 were detained during searches today in the Nathanya, Keiiovoth and Hederah districts. It is understood they include at least one first-rank terrorist. A British army sergeant and a driver, who were held for questioning after discovery of large quantities of drugs in the luggage of services’ entertainments units have been released. They and others are believed to have been implicated without their knowledge in drug smuggling by a big ring.
