Award £1724 Damages
(P.A.) GREYMOUTH. This Day. Damages totalling £1724 were awarded Richard James Henham, confectioner. of Greymouth, by a jury in a claim on the ground of negligence against Stratford, Blair and Co. Ltd., sawmillers, for injuries received in an accident at defendants' sawmill in November, 1945. Plaintiff alleged that the accident occurred because a winch in the bush had been started without the proper signal being given, and that he was struck by the tail rope and a log that was being snigged. The jury added a rider recommending that only whistle signals be observed in the bush.
