Block Membership For Kaitaia Fed. Farmers
(Special) KAITAIA, This Day. FARMERS were being pushed harder than ever against the wall, the president (Mr J. Morrison) told members at the annual meeting of the Kaitaia Branch, New Zealand Federated Farmers’ Union, on Wednesday. ,
United effort was required to ensure just recognition of farmers’ claims, and for this reason the formation of one single primary producers’ organisation during the past year had been a forward step.
Increased membership was still needed, and Mr Morrison commended the scheme of block membershiip through dairy companies. Unionism’s power had been seen in the recent successful danger money claims for seamen in connection with iho Wanyanclla stranding. The rates secured jhad been on an absurdly high level for one section of the community It was for the farming community. lVlr Morrison concluded, to unite in in claims and make their weight felt, ifo thanked branch members for their support during the past year.
Officers elected for 1947-48 were: President, Mr J. Morrison; vice-presi-dents, Messrs I. J. Berghan and R. 11. Michie; hon. secretary, Mr E. W. Hansen; delegates to Bay of Islands subprovincial conference, Messrs MorrP son. C. B. Michie, Berghan and Hansen; committee, Messrs D. Bell, E. Kendrick. T. S. Houston, A. W. Masters, D. H. Lewis, C. B. Michie, Thco. Matthews, F. A. Holder. W. S. Beckett, G. Bell, E. Elliott, and L. G. Diixon. A deputation was appointed from the branch to discuss with the Kaitaia Co-op. Dairy Co. Ltd directors proposals Cor block membership and to re-
port back to a combined meeting of branches in the company’s district.
