King's Message To French President
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) CAPETOWN, Mar. 5. His Majesty the King replying to President Auriol’s message on the signing of the Anglo-French Treaty, said he warmly welcomed reaffirmation of the historic ties between the two countries. He hoped that conclusion of the treaty might lead to ever-increasing collaboration between the two peoples and benefit the interests of the world as a whole. M. Bidault later sent a telegram to Mr Churchill, saying: “At the moment when, in the shattered, but renascent town of Dunkirk, the Franco-British Alliance is being reaffirmed, I wish in the name of the French Republic to address t 0 France’s great friend, to whom we owe victory, an expression of our gratitude. I am convinced this treaty, which'answers the vital necessities which you stressed so often, will bring an essential contribution to the full recovery of our country and the preservation of peace.’’ It is officially announced in Warsaw that Poland expects to sign a pact of friendship and mutual assistance with Czechoslovakia within a .few days.
