Two Paintings Reported Missing

WELLINGTON, Tliis Day.
The National Art Gallery. Wellington, has received advice from Dr W. O. Paul, of Sydney, concerning two early and well-known paintings by, the late Sir Arthur Streeton, which disappeared from his collection of Australian paintings loaned to the Sydney University. . ' Dr Paul states that /the pictures are too well-known for anyone to try to disoose of them in New South Wales, and that they may find their 'way to New Zealand. The pictures are believed to have disappeared from the premises of the University Union during the Christmas vacation, and had been on loan to the union for some time. One picture, 13in. by 6in. represents a street scene in Cairo as seen through an archway. It has “Arthur Streeton, 1898.” on the painting and the title on the frame is “Street Scene in Cairo.” The second painting, 15in. by Bin., has “Arthur Streeton, 1893,” on the painting, and the title is “Water Carrier or Seller of Drink,” on the frame.
It depicts a tall Egyptian carrying a brown piece of pottery.
