Professor C- G. Cooper, professor of classics at Auckland University College. has accepted the position of professor of classics at the Queensland University.

An American honour, the Legion of Merit, degree of officer, was presented to Lieutenant-Colonel E. K. Norman, D. 5.0.. M.C., of Napier,, at the American Embassy in London on January 3. The award was made in recognition of his leadership of the 25th New Zealand Battalion at the Senio River crossing in Italy. Mr Harry Linley Richardson, R.8.A., art master of the Palmerston North Technical School and formerly art master at the Wellington Technical School, has died at the age of 63. He was a regular exhibitor at the annual shows of the Royal Society of British Artists in London. Selected from 41 applicants, Mr Mervyn Anseley Bull, M.Sc., 8.C0m., has been chosen as rector of the Timaru, Boys' High School in place of Mr A. G. Tait, who is retiring. Mr Bull is at present second assistant at the Thames High School.
