Ground Mosquitoes On Way To N.Z.

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The discovery of a slight defect in several mosquito aircraft in England has affected the ferry flights of ten Mosquitoes which are on the way to New Zealand. Some of them are being held at Singapore for examination while the remainder are in India. These 10 are the first of 80 Mosquitqes purdhased from the United Kingdom by. New Zealand to equip postwar squadrons of the RNZAF. They left England on Decembr 12 and were due at Ohakea on December 22. The Chief of Air Staff (Air ViceMarshal A. de T. Nevill) said this that on the discovery of corrosion in a morning in a telephone interview metal part of some of the aircraft in the United Kingdom, the Air Ministry grounded a large number of Mosquitoes for examination and requested those en route to New Zealand to be examined similarly.
