To Nationalise N.Z. Coal Mines
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Now that the Government's programme has been endorsed by the Rectors of Nett' Zealand, it will give effect to its policy ol' nationalising coal mines and coal deposits.
This statement was made in an interview’ by the Minister of Mines (Mr McLagan). Such nationalisation.
te said, was announced as part of the Government policy at the recent general election. The Government intends seeking information from the British Government concerning the procedure adopted in negotiating nationalisation of mines there. Mr McLagan said the British Government seemed to have made a reasonably good bargain, and he would like to know something of the details in- New Zealand. The state already owned a substantial proportion of the country's coal industry.
