Nehru Announces Interim Cabinet

! NEW DELHI, Aug. 25. The King has accepted the resignation of the Caretaker Government in India and has appointed the new Interim Government headed by Mr Nehru. The members of the new Government are as follows: Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr V. Patel. Dr R. Prasad. Mr C. Rajagopalachari, Mr Sarat Chandra Bose (all Hindus). Mr Jagjivan Ram (Hindu—Untouchables) . Mr Asaf Ali, Mr Ali Zahir, Sir Shafaat Ahmad Khan (all Moslems). Sardar Baldev Singh (Sikh). Dr J. Matthai (Indian Christians), Mr F. R. Anthony (Anglo-Indians) and Dr G. 11. Bhaba (Parsees). Two more Moslem members will be appointed later. Sir Shafaat Ahmad Khan was stabbed seven times while walking last night. His attackers were two young men who escaped. Sir Shafaat was unconscious when admitted to hospital, but is now out of danger. Sir Shafaat resigned recently from the Moslem League as a protest against its decision not to take part in the Interim Government. ALLEGIANCE TO KING

The Government will take the oath on September 2. The Viceroy (Viscount Wavell), broadcasting over the New Delhi radio, urged the Moslem League to reconsider its decision not to participate in Mr Nehru’s Interim Government. He said Mr Nehru and his colleagues were anxious that both the main parties should be represented in it. “The War Member of the new Government will be Indian, but this in no way changes the constitutional position of the armed forces.” Viscount Wavell said. "The forces still owe allegiance to the King-Emperor and to the British Parliament.”
