Canteen Funds
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) BRISBANE. This Day. A central fund to control profits made from service canteens and similar sources and totalling £4.560.000 has been approved by the Federal Cabinet. The money will be allocated to the assistance of members and ex-members of the services, their dependents and dependents of those who died. Announcing this, the Minister of the Army (Mr Forde) said that the first charge on the fund would be for educational assistance to children of ex-servicemen and the education and maintenance of children of deceased and incapacitated servicemen. It was estimated that £2,500,000 would be required for this purpose. The funds would be pooled by the three services, each service retaining £60.000 for the benefit of serving personnel.
