Whangorei Combined Pensioners' Association

Reports presented at the monthlymeeting at the Whangarei Combined Pensioners’ Association revealed a growing membership and a fair credit balance. Mr Hirons presided. The benevolent fund had enabled the executive to give assistance during temporary embarrassment to several members, each of whem expressed keen appreciation. This fund is established by the voluntary contribution of small change at all meetings, and has grown to an appreciable amount. Matters relating to the provision of an old men’s home were left in the hands of a committee elected for that purpose to investigate and report to next meeting. ENTERTAINED BY YV.L The meeting adjourned to permit members to attend an enjoyable afternoon tendered to them by ladies from the Women’s Institute, Items were rendered in a most releasing fashion. It. was gratifying to see several inmates of the Potter Memorial Home for Ladies present, in the care of the matron. A bouquet of sweet peas was presented li Mr? Lawson as the eldest lady present trom the institution. The programme comprised; Violin solos. Miss Roland: duets. Mrs Marwiik and Miss McDonald: humorous songs «Scotch'. Mr W. Caidev: duologue, "Greater London." Mrs Thomson and Mrs Molineaux; songs. Mrs Aldred; monologues, Mr H. Gribble: duets, Mr and Mrs Calder: recitation. Mrs Thompson. The accompanists were Mesdames Webb and Taylor.

At the conclusion of the musical programme light refreshments were handed round. Mr Collier, as secretary explained the objects of the association, and emphasised that if it were possible to give to pensioners some moments of pleasure, as had been done that afternoon, it would be seme recompense for any effort expended. Mr Hirons. in proposing thanks to the ladies for the afternoon, made special mention of the artists.
