(P.A.) AUCKLAND. This Day
Mr Myers referred to the acut« shortage cx hotel accommodation. They fully appreciated the necessity for providing houses for ex-servicemen and others in priority to all ether works, but if their inquiries from what was probably the highest authority on building construction in New Zealand had not convinced them that a permit for the proposed hotel would not interfere with the bousing programme, they would not be seeking a permit.
They asked Mr Parry to place the request before the Prime Minister. The Minister thanked the deputation for the sense of responsibility shown in present and future needs, also for emphasising their appreciation of homes having the first priority. He promised to bring the proposal before Cabinet and the Prime Minister at the earliest possible moment.
