(Rec. 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, June 25 England defeated India in the first test by 10 wickets. India this morning lost the last six wickets cheaply. England needed only 48 runs to win, and they scored them without loss. A nicely compiled 50 by Amarnath saved India from defeat by an innings. He scored his half-century in 70 minutes. Bedser again bowled well for England, taking four wickets for 96 runs. Bowes took 0 for 9; Wright, 2 for 68; Ikin 1 for 43: Smailes, 3 for 44.
