American Airways Beat Australian

(Rec. 1.20.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Failure of the Government to get United States approval for transpacific air services was affecting Australia's prestige, said the managing director of Australian National Airways (Mr I. Holyman). The company, he said, had contracted to operate an interim Pacific service, but it could not afford to go on waiting indefinitely until permission was given to begin.

Apparently it had been decided that no service could start until a bilateral agreement between Australia, New Zealand and the United States was signed in Washington. Pan American Airways had already beaten the Empire to the post by operating a service from San Francisco to Auckland.
