LONDON, May 4. 1 lan Patey won the English amateur golf championship, defeating Kenneth Thom, 5 and 4. Patey, who is a former I boy international, won the championship by cool, steady play. Although he was frequently outdriven in the final, his iron play and green play were vastly superior and outweighed that disadvantage.
