Girls Smuggled Out Of Australia By Americans
1 Fifteen. Australian girls employed by the American foi-ces in Brisbane have been “smuggled out” of Australia to Manila.
They left secretly by. a Douglas Dakota transport plane from Eagle Farm aerodrome at 4.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
American army transport vehicles had picked them up from their homes an hour earlier.
The Australian Customs recently refused them passports, and if the girls

leave the United States forces they will be stranded without passports. The girls, who were employed in confidential secretarial work for American officers, have been posted to similar duties, . /
They will be paid £740 a year. Possibly many will be taken on to Japan and thence to America.
CLASH.—The Rome correspondent of the Associated Press reports that Polish soldiers broke up an Italian Communist organised meeting at Cervia killing two and wounding 10.
