Luxembourg: Gauleiter Suicides After Arrest
(Rec. 2.30 p.m.) LUXEMBURG, Dec. 20 Gustav Simon, Luxembourg gauleiter during the occupation, committed suicide after his arrest in the British zone in Germany. He hanged himself with a rope made from padding pulled from his cell mattress.
Simon, during the occupation, precipitated widespread strikes throughout Luxembourg by conscripting men to fight for the Germans.
