Licensing Of Sea Fishing Boats

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Sea Fisheries (Boats and Licences) Regulations, which appeared in the Gazette last night, are in the main to give effect to the provisions of the Fisheries Amendment Act, 1945, passed by Parliament in the session just concluded. Certain other provisions included in these regulations are matters which appeared in existing regulations and which have been recast to suit the new conditions, or which have been revoked in the general regulations and included in this section of the regulations for clarity and to render this section complete as regards the licensing and registration of boats, appeal provisions and similar general provisions which apply to all boats engaged in Hhe taking of fish for sale. The new regulations set out the types of licences required, the method of making application, conditions to which they are subject, and the scale of fees payable. The form, of appeal, the regulation of the hearing of appeals and appeal fees are also dealt with.

The status of the Director of Rehabilitation in regard to making representations on behalf of returned servicemen and his right of appeal on their behalf are also laid down. The regulations apply to all persons and boats engaged in the taking of fish for sale, but do not apply to people fishing for pleasure or for their own consumption only.
