Navy Personnel And N.Z.E.F. Men Due Christinas Day

Of the 719 naval personnel arriving in Wellington on the escort carrier Atheling on the morning of Christmas Eve, 25 are from Northland.

Information received 'by Army ’’Headquarters, Whangarei, states that I there are also an additional 170 N.Z.E.F. men aboard and three Air ■ Force personnel, but it is not stated how many are for Northland. Approximately 300 of the men are for the Auckland Province and it is understood that a special train will bring the men, who will arrive some time on Christmas Day. Details of transport to Whangarei have not been arranged because of the uncertainty of the time of arrival, and because railway buses in Auckland were not available.

Men for Whangarei and North will be given refreshments here and taken to their homes by Army transport. Most of the Whangarei staff will be on. duty for a part of Christmas Day to cope with the arrival. A message from Melbourne . states that the Atheling left Melbourne for New Zealand yesterday morning. Following is a list of men for Northland:—
