Dargaville Committee To Investigate Housing

(Special.) DARGAVILLE, This Day A Northern Wairoa housing relief committee has been formed to collate all available information on prospective house building in the district and to press for a block allocation of the necessary building materials. A decision to this effect was reached when a conference convened by the Mayor (Mr W. L. Hughes) discussed the housing shortage. The conference, v/hich was attended by representatives of local bodies, the building trades, sawmi'.ling interests, the Dargaville Rehabilitation Committee, the Northern Wairoa Returned Services Association and citizens interested in home building, also advocated the abolition of the excess profits tax on bush working and sawmilling undertakings, and the reduction or removal of the sales tax on building materials.
