Got 500 Per Cent Rise In Wages
ATHENS, Dec. 19
A tram strike in Athens was declared last night and ended today when a 500 per cent increase on the wages fixed last May was granted.
This reflects the Greek economic situation, the deterioration of which, ays the Associated Press correspondent in Athens, is due to a growing feeling that Britain will not grant financial assistance to Greece, also to lack of confidence in Greece’s future. Pointing out that the gold sovereign last night rocketed to 110,000 drachmas on the black bourse, the correspondent believes the situation may affect the stability of the Sofoulis Government.
