Uproar At Dutch Opera Performance

AMSTERDAM, Dec. 19

Shouts of “Seig Heil” from the gallery and scuffles among the audience, in which the police used sabres to restore order, marked a demonstration at the performance of the opera “TosCa” against the appearance of Dutch artists, who carried on stage work during the German occupation. The lights went off several times, but the opera continued amid loud applause from a packed theatre.

There was renewed trouble when the artists were leaving the stagedoor after the performance. The police again drew sabres to clear the outside of the theatre.

Flowers bought for the artists were hurled on the pavement and stamped on. Attempts were made to slash the tyres of a ’bus waiting to take the orchestra home. The police made 11 arrests.
