More Adjustments To Import Schedule

(Spec.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Further adjustments to the import schedule announced by the Customs Department yesterday covered a broadening range of goods.

Increased allocations fori the importation of motor spare parts was the principal change made, while sources of supply were extended to the United States and Canada.

Other allocations and adjustments affected insulated cable, woollen piece goods, clothes, wringers, mincers, drinking glasses, firearms and fertilisers.

The allocation for imports of spare parts of motor vehicles from the United Kingdom and Australia during 1948 has been increased from 100 per cent, to 150 per cent, of the amounts of licenses granted for imports for these goods from the same sources in the past year.

Licenses may also be granted for imports of these goods from Canada and the United States during 1946 for amounts equivalent • to the value of licenses granted for imports from those sources in 1941.

Applicants for permits to import insulated cable and wire, except radio hook-up, push-back and slip-back wire, are informed that it will now be sufficient if they specify the various types of winding wire they desire to import in the event of a license being granted. WOOLLEN PIECE GOODS A limited quantity of woollen piece goods is available in Australia for export to New Zealand and applications for import licenses will be considered if made by regular importers. An increase from 100 to 200 per cent, on the basis of 1938 imports is made in the allocation for hand-type clothes wringers from the United Kingdom for the coming year. A direction is,given to those who desire to import hand mincers that the number as well as the value should be specified. Drinking glasses of a type suitable for the hotel and catering trades may be imported from Australia under 1946 licenses granted for purchases of these from the United Kingdom. The department is now prepared to grant licenses to the extent of 100 per cent, of imports in 1938 for purchases of a specific woodfiller and sealer from the United Kingdom. Imports of rifles and firearms to the extent of 50 per cent, of the value of purchases from all sources in 1938 will be permitted, no limitation being set as to the source of supply. An instruction is given to fertiliser merchants that applications for licenses to import manures, including nitrate of soda, sulphur and other lines should specify the estimated tonnage as well as the value.
