Could Not Believe He Had Won £SOO
When told that he had won £SOO in the Xmas art union, Paddy Matthews, a young Maori farmhand in the Broadwood district, just looked dumbfounded.
The bearer of good news was a neighbouring farmer and he told the “Advocate” today that Paddy just could not believe it.
He thought he was the subject oi a “leg pull” and Until he checked up with his ticket he did not entertain the slightest hope of having won.
This is the lads second succes in an art union, a previous investment returning a “fiver.” He has not decided how he will spend the money but his worries for Christmas are over.
