No District Nurse Possible For Horeke

(Special.) RAWENE, This Day. A reply that it was not possible to appoint a district nurse for the Horeke area or to set up a resident clinic at Horeke was received from the Minister for Health (Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer) by the Hokianga Hospital Board this week.

The board applied to the Minister earlier this year for sanction of such a proposal.

“Considerable difficulty is being experienced in obtaining suitable nurses,” said the Minister, “and, as there are already six nurses in the district, the question of appointing one/for Horeke will unfortunately have to stand over until other urgent vacancies are filled.”

Mr Nordmeyer suggested that the position might be reviewed in a year, when it was hoped that more nurses would be available.

The Minister, in another letter, said that he was still of the opinion that expenditure was not justified in the circumstances on housing for the board’s secretary.

He was asked to sanction the raising of a loan of £2OOO for this purpose and declined it a few weeks back, but the board had made further representations on the subject.

Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Snell and their daughter, Joyce, w§re last night entertained at a farewell dance in the Maunu Hall. A stock dealer in the district for 26| years, he is retiring to Whangarei. Speakers mentioned the sterling service Mr.. Snell had given the district and on behalf of local residents they ' 1 were presented with suitable gifts.
