(.Special) RAWENE. This Day. An unusual request for jeeps for use by district nurses in the baekblocks, has been made by the medical superintendent cf the Hokianga Hospital at Rawene (Dr. G. M. Smith').

“We are running an experimental co-operative clinic medical service m an isolated ‘backblock’ district where roads are often bullock tracks,” wrote Dr. Smith to the United States Joint Purchasing Board. “We employ six district nurses with cars, and the latter are quite unfit for the work. “We want six jeeps. Would it be possible to forward our request to the United States authorities for favourable consideration “May I point out that our service has recently aroused much interest in the U.5.A.,” the doctor added. “Surely it would be a better thing to give jeeps to us than to dump them in the sea.
