Spent £120,000,000 On Urgent Defence Works
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) BRISBANE. June 28. The Commonwealth Allied Works Council spent £120,000,000 on urgent defence works during- the past 2G months, said the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr. Forde). Australia's pre-war expenditure on public works had been about £2,100.000 yearly. Since February, 1042. '>ooo miles of strategic roads. 400 aerodromes and munitions plants valued at £28,000.000 had been built, Other activities included work on the Sydney graving dock and construction of army camps, hospitals, warehouses and wharf facilities.
