Food Commissioner Visits Whangarei
Continuing his tour of Northland, the leader of the United Kingdom food mission to Australia and New Zealand (Mr. W. Bankes Amery) arrived in Whangarei today and was accorded a civic luncheon.
Mr. Amery, who was accompanied by Mrs. Amery. was met by the Mayor (Mr. W. Jones) before the luncheon which was tendered jonitly by the Whangarei Borough Council and the Whangarei County Council to enable the visitor to meet representatives ol primary industry and organisations associated with food production.
Officially represented at the luncheon were the Whangarei Borough Council (Mr. and Mrs. W Jones, and Messrs. L. Reynolds and L. O. Hall), the Whangarei County Council (Mr. J. A. S. Mac Kay and Mrs. C. Jones, and Messrs. R. Feaver and G. H. Lloyd). Farmers’ Union (Messrs. A. Briscoe Moore. F. Simmonds and H. E. Hewlett), Pig Council (.Messrs. H. W. James and J. Logan), Primary Production Council (Messrs. E. S. Tremaine and C. P. Butler). Whangarei Dairy Company, Ltd. (Messrs. A. Clarke and G. Hill), Chamber of Commerce (Messrs. L. Cameron and J. F. Johnson), Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union (Mesdames N. Horrobin and W. C. B. Powell), A. and P. Society (Mr. H. W. Ellis).
At the conclusion of the luncheon, which was informal in character, the representatives adjourned to the County Chambers for a discussion on the food situation.
