de Valera Unaware Of Axis Espionage
NEW YORK, March 16.
The United States Government, _in consultation with Britain, is preparing a new diplomatic offensive with a view to ridding Axis agents from Eire before the invasion of Europe begins, reports the Washington correspondent of the “Herald Ti’ibune.” Preliminary surveys of possible economic pressure have already been made and United States officials are documenting a vigorous reply to Mr de Valera's rejection. In it they -will furnish evidence that de Valera does not know the extent to which Germany and Japan have used Eire’s professed neutrality as a beachhead planted virtually in the heart of the greatest military operation of all time. The United States, in the Note on February 21, refrained for security reasons from telling all it knows about Axis activities in Eire and what has been transmitted to Berlin and Tolcio, Some material obtained by the German Minister at Dublin has been of great potential value to the German High Command.
