Sobbing, Woolcott Forbes Protests His Innocence
SYDNEY. This Day
Sobbing as he spoke, John Wooicott Forbes declared in the criminal court here yesterday: "I am innocent of these charges. I did not forge or falsify these certificates." '
Forbes is on trial on charges of forging, uttering and falsifying share certificates of tire Producers and General Finance Corporation, of which he was a director. Addressing the jury at the conclusion of the Crown evidence, Mr Shand, K.C., declared that he would show that Forbes was wholly innocent. He claimed that Forbes had put his capital of £IOO.OOO into the company in an effort to protect shareholders.
