The Administrator (Mr A. C. Turnbull) while out walking met with a slight accident on Sunday and was admitted to Apia hospital suffering from a crushed foot. Miss J. Lane, of the Whangaroa County Office, Kaeo, has been appointed actingcounty clerk and returning officer. Mr. A J. Munnings, R.A., lias been elected president of the Royal Academy in succession to the late Sir Edwin Lutyens. Mrs. S. W. Smith, fermery Miss Lucy Cranwell, (he well-known botanist at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. has cabled news of her arrival in tlie United States. Her archaecligist husband (Major S. W. Smith), of the United States Army, to whom she was married in October,' is at presnt stationed in Washington. Mr. O. O. Machattie, of Kawakawa, Bay of Islands county clerk, has been appointed to a similar position by the Whangaroa County Council. Mr. Machattie will also combine the posts of secretary to tlie Whangaroa Hospital Board and Harbour Board. At the conclusion of yesterday’s County Council, Hospital Board and Harbour Eoard meetings at Kaeo, the retiring county clerk-cum-secrctary (Mr. F. R. Nicol) rose to thank chairmen and members of the three bodies for the ednsideralion shown him over the past two years. Mr. T. H. Hayes (County Council chairman) and Mr. L. M. Lane (Hospital and Harbour Boards), replied, congratulating Mr. Nicol on his work for Whangaroa and wishing him the best of luck in his new post of assistant clerk and treasurer to the Rangitikei County Council at Marton. Mr. and Mrs. Nicol will leave Kaeo for Marton tomorrow.
