Whangarei Bowls Tourney Attracts Record Entries
The Whangarei Bowling Club’s annual full rink tournament, which -is scheduled to commence on Friday, sJnuary 28 and conclude on Monday, January 31 inst. has created an all-time record with an entry ol! 48 teams, the maximum the club can accomodate in the town area By courtesy of the Kensington Bowling Club its eight rink green will be placed at the disposal of the Whangarei Club and two sections will be disputed there The previous best entry experienced in the clubs history was 44 teams in 193 C when the Jubilee year was celebrated. This three-day event. providing for seven games over the first two days and pest section play, the semi-finals and finals on the third day has made it an increasingly poular fixture.
Outside teams are evincing greater interest, evidence of which can be seen by the support from as far afield as Hamilton and there are no fewe>- than eight Auckland rinks, including representatives from clubs such as Balmoral. Carlton Taknpuna, Devonport, Avondale. Otahuhu, and Railways. Northland clubs will be Kaitaia. Kaikohc, Kawakawa, Hikurangi, Kensington, Porlland. Waipu Msungaturoto. Ruawai, Dargaville and Helcnsville. It has been revealed this morning that one Whangarei team had withdrawn its entry, during the week-end leaving a vacancy which it is anticipated wU be quickly filled. Doel Pairs
Entries for the ever popular Doel pairs scheduled for February 12 have come forward rapidly and with the maximum number of 42 teams already in, no more can be accepted. Most Northland clubs are represented and there are two pairs from Auckland. The Portland Club’s splendid, green will be used to accomodate the overflow and the Whangarei Club will endeavour to provide transport for those drawn to play at Portland.
