Want Children To Aid Vegetable Growing
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. Efforts are being made to obtain the services of at least 500 school children, both boys and girls, in the Auckland district to assist in vegetable production from the middle of December to the end oi March next year. Although the call is entirely voluntary, payment will be made to school children. Piece-work will be encouraged, but other payment will be on an hourly basis. - . , " 1 r ■' I ,
Boys and girls under 16 will receive 1/an hour, girls of 16 and under 13 years 1/3, and boys between 16 and 13 years 1/6, plus the cost-of-living allowance. Overtime will he paid after a 48-hour week. Girls will be expected to work about five-and-a-half hours daily. Boys in eamo will be called upoh to pay a weeklv charge of £1 for board unless in exceptional circumstances. Children will not be required to work on either Christmas or New Year holidays, but, if they do. they will receive special compensation.
