Wellington’s Wet September
CP.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Total rainfall for September in Wellington was over 9J inches. At Kelburn, where Wellington’s meteorological records are made, the month’s available rainfall was 9.65 inches, rain falling on 22 out of the month’s 30 days. But in Hutt Valley where it was probably the wettest month on record, rainfall was considerably heavier, varying in different parts between 12 and 19 inches.
It was not the wettest September on record in Wellington, being the third wettest since the taking of Official records were started in 1862. In 1874, over 11 inches of rain fell in Wellington in September, and September in 1863 was also wetter than last month.
