Appeal To Coalminers
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister for Mines (Hon. P. Webb) has requested district State coal mines, with th'e exception of Liverpool, to work the next two “back” Satuulays to supplement supplies of coal until warmer weather lessens the demand for household coal. Mr. Webb stated this morning that all mines, including co-operative concerns, but excepting Liverpool, had agreed to the request. He added that the Liverpool miners had noi been asked because, of their long day away from home and the fact that many ot Ihcm were getting on in }c-ers.
In reply to a query, he stated that the Government had considered the purchase of Burke’s Creek colliery at Inangahua, but reports received haye been against purchase and no further action had been taken.
