Third Of Forestry Group Returning

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day It is announced by the Prime Minister, that, as a result of arrangements ’.villi the United Kingdom authorities, approximately a third of the Forestry Group which has been serving in Britain since 1040 was being brought back lo New Zealand. The object of the Government in recalling expert bushmon and sawmillers was to afford much-needed relief in the timber industry upon which continually increasing demands were being made by both the United States and our own armed forces in New Zealand and in the South Pacific area.

The return of these highly skilled men, who had rendered splendid service to the war effort in the United Kingdom, would provide considerable and timely assistance in meeting one of the urgent war needs of industry. Mr Fraser added he had received a cablegram from the Secretary for the Dominions (Lord Cranborne), stating that members of the Forestry Group had made a contribution of great value to the common resources and they had worthily upheld, in Great Britain, the traditions of New Zealand. Mr Fraser, in reply, had expressed the gratitude of the British people for the ready hospitality they had extended to these men.

A cable message received from New Vcrk yesterday announced the arrival there of COO Australian and New Zealand Forestry Group members.
