No Further Progress Election Results
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. It was stated yesterday by the chief electoral officer (Mr. L. Irwin) that no further preliminary returns of votes cast in the general election were expected from overseas, as returning officers were busy preparing for their official count which entails assembling of all votes in which approximately 50,000 absent postal and seamen’s votes are lo be included. The counting on election night showed that the approximate total of civilian votes was 746,000 and that of the forces, both in New Zealand and overseas, was 73,000. The Licensing- Poll
Latest progress returns in a preliminary counting of votes on the national licensing issue are—Civilian: Continuance 416,881, State Purchase 102.855, Prohibition 233,747. Forces: Continuance 50.060, State Purchase 7051, Prohibition 6700. Grand totals: Continuance 466.941, State Purchase 109,906, Prohibition 240,447.
