Starvation Deaths In Calcutta, 2982
LONDON, September 30. Since August 15 5400 starving persons have been taken to hospital in Calcutta, where 1230 died, making the total deaths in the city from starvation 2982, says “The Times” Calcutta correspondent. The Government has provided more than 4000 relief kitchens in the province. The Ministry is bringing grain from other provinces and sending it from Calcutta and districts with a surplus to those with a deficit. Rice generally seems to have disappeared from the market.
