Tests With Liquid
Manures, Phosphates Records of the value of lictuid farmyard manure were now available for 12 months, stated the supervisor of the Northern Wairoa Experimental and Demonstration Farm, Mr. E. H. Arnold, at the annual meeting of the society. From a herd of 49 milking cows, approximately 36,000 gallons of liquid farmyard manure were obtained and dressed over nine acres, giving a dressing per acre of 4000 gallons. Samples of the liquid manure were regularly taken and it was calculated that the following fertiliser equivalents were distributed on the land instead of being allowed to lie in a heap or run down the drains: Dried blood 13321b5., sulphate of ammonia 5041b5., serpentine super 2821b5., 30 per cent, potash salts 11251b5. . It is estimated that fertilisers which would cost about £45 to purchase were applied 'for a cost of about £32. These results were preliminary and it was hoped that after a further 12 months’ work they would be confirmed if not improved.
