< Labour Is Given Mandate

—FRASER Addressing the electors of New Zealand by radio in the early hours of Sunday morning, the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said the Labour Government had won 43 seats, the National Party 36, and one Independent candidate had been successful. This meant that the policy of the Government in peace and war had been supported by the people of the Dominion. Mr Fraser asked for their unflagging support in the future, in the rehabilitation of servicemen and in the maintenance of the standard of living and social security. The people had given the Government a mandate it proposed to exercise. He thanked all who had voted for the Government’s candidates and the electoral officers. Maori People Congratulated Congratulating the Maori people, he said they had shown reahsation of the issues at stake and had given a splendid response at the poll on Friday. Expressing regret that a number of Labour members would net take their places when the House re-assembled, Mr Fraser specially mentioned Mr Barclay and Mr Nordmeyer. Ministers for Agriculture and Health respectively, both of whom, he said, had shown conspicuous ability in adminis-
