Won On Minority Votes

Seventeen successful candidates hold their seats on minority votes, according to the provisional count. They comprise 11 Labour Party members and six Nationalists. Several of these candidates failed tc record majority votes by slender margins, but others polled well below the combined totals of their opponents The successful candidate in the greatest minority was the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), whose provisional score of 6212 was 1537 short of his opponents’ combined return of 7749.
