Salween Barrier Remains
CHUNGKING, August 25. After :i two-day battle the Chinese frustrated tan ambitious Japanese attempt on August 13 to cross the Salween River iii Western Yunnan, states a Chungking communique. Several hundred Japanese were killed and (lie survivors retreated. The Japanese drove northward from Tens' Chung using scores of rubber boats in an attempt to cross the river near fluitun Bridge, on the Burma mad. Japanese, in attempts to capture Kunming via Burma, have never been aide to penetrate, beyond tlie Salween.
