Washington Legation
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Replying in the House ol: Representatives yesterday afternoon to a statement made ‘on Tuesday by the Prime Minister concerning an advertisement dealing with the expenses of the Washington Legation inserted in a Wellington newspaper, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Holland) said that the advertisement had been inserted and paid for by a private individual without the knowledge of the National Party. Mr. Holland said he had checked up information contained in the advertisement and had found that an error had been made in one instance only, relating to the salary of the Minister for Finance, and this would be corrected immediately. Mr. Fraser said he wished to thank the Leader of the Opposition for correcting obvious glaring mistakes in the advertisement. The Government could justify every farthing of expenditure, even if it had ’been 10 times as much.
