(Official News Service) CAIRO, August 24. A fully representative New Zealand water polo team maintains its unbeaten record in the Cairo League competition, which is contested by first-class teams representing forces and services in the area. A high standard of water polo is maintained m Egypt, in normal times the National team being in world class. Competition in the area reaches a class higher than inter-provincial play in New Zealand. The Kiwis have been coached by Basch. international champion since 1935 and a member of the Czech Olympic side. Regular players are K. Drummond. R. M. Rattray, P. H. McGrath, G. Low, M. Clay, J. Rawston Barry, and periodical players arc P. R. Malt bus. S. M. McKinley. K. Welch and Mitchell. North Island v. South To enable selectors to choose a team to play the Royal Navy at Alexandria this week. North Island played South and [ won on the first innings by four wickets 12b runs. Though without four of their j leading players, South Island batted only ian hour and a quarter for GO runs | Finney 11, Riley 13 and Rayner 10 were the only double figure scorers. The bowling cf Carson, 3 for 13. and McKay, 3 for 17 and Hatch 2 for 7 was not above the average and batting was disappointingly poor. Despite consistently good bowling by Begg, 3 for 63. and Cresswell who had several catches dropped. North Island batted slowly but surely, Burnette being i not-out tep score with 47, .Scott 24. Besides making 19 as opening batsman, the wicket-keeper, Blandford, stumped two men and caught four others behind in tlit- South Island innings. In the second innings. South scored 72 for G Howden (who captained the side) not our 18, Pinnev 16. Carson captained North which was without Donnelly and Kenny. The New Zealand team to play Navy is M. P. Donnelly. V. J.
