State Tenants’ Tenure
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Speaking in the House of Representatives, the Minister in Charge of War Expenditure (Mr Hamilton) said that the Minister for Finance, in providing in the Bill for State tenants to retain possession of their houses and then pass them on to sons and daughters for continued tenancy was trying to give them the freehold under another name. He now realised the necessity for security of tenure. Mr J. A. Roy (.Oppn.. Clutha): The Minister has shifted a bit to the right. Mr Hamilton said the use of reserve bank credit, which was cheap money, meant drawing cn the resources of the country. Private enterprise by comparison was under a handicap in that it did not have access to the same sources.
