Britain, Poland United Till Victory

( PA) WELLINGTON. This Day. “The Polish nation will remain true to engagements made between Mr. Churchill and the late General Sikorski and will fight until victory is achieved.” This declaration has been made in a message to Mr. Churchill from a special meeting of the Polish political committee of all parties held underground in Poland on July 21. The message was endorsed by a representative of the Polish Government in Poland and sent by secret channels to the Polish Prime Minister in London, from where it was transmitted to Mr. Churchill in the United States. The message, a copy of which has been received by cable by the Polish ConsulGeneral (Count Wodzicki), states that, dc-eplv shaken and in profound mourning after'the tragic death of General Sikorski, the Polish nation listened with emotion to Mr. Churchill’s strong, comforting words addressed to it. on July 14. The message added: "We know and remember that one of the darkest periods in the history of the present war was the summer of 1940, when the Germans destroyed France and the remainder of the Polish army, which was saved from disaster, was about to reach the shores of Britain. Between you and General Sikorski words were then exchanged which sealed the amity for life and death between Poles and Britons. General Sikorski remained faithful to his words until death. True to Plighted Word "We declare solemnly that it is the Polish nation's will to remain true to those engagements, not only during our mortal struggle with Germany, but also after the war, when the world will be rearranged and peace will be stabilised. Following in General Sikorski’s footsteps, the Polish people—although the most exposed target of German terror—will remain faithful and will continue with unshaken determination their resolution to keep up these principles which brought about the Polish and British alliance.” The message concluded that, side by side with Britain, America and the Allies. Poland would fight until victory was achieved for the freedom and independence of Poland and all brother countries, and for securing permanent peace based on principles of complete democracy.
