Woolgrowers Worry Over Post-War Markets
t p.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The probability of war period accumulations of surplus raw wool is adding to the uneasiness of wooigrowers regarding post-war markets and prices and has resulted in an agitation for a post-war marketing plan to stabilise wool prices, said the chairman (Mr H. M. Christie) at the annual meeting of the Wool Council today. He said that economy of all countries had changed during the war and any post-war marketing plan based on pre-war conditions was doomed to fail. After discussing a proposal submitted by South African wooigrowers, he pointed out that a fixed post-war marketing plan would have a i'arrcaching effect on the whole economy of the country. Great care must be taken to ensure that such a plan did not create detrimental repercussions r.n the marketing of meat and other prirnary products. Mr Christie mentioned that the position in regard to surplus New Zealand wool stocks had improved and it was unlikely that there would be any serious accumulation at the beginning of the coming wool season.
