New Luftwaffe Tricks Against U.S. Bombers
LONDON, August 24. The Luftwaffe is using two new tactics in a vain effort to stop United States bombers systematically destroying their factories, says th•• aviation writer for the “Daily Express.” The fust is employment of rebuilt Fortresses shot down in previous raids in attempts to fly alongside American-manned Fort 1 esses during daylight at lacks. These spy planes observe United States bomber manoeuvres and endeavour to report on them to ground defences but American crews easily recognise these “phoney forts” and always drive them off It is estimated that the Germans have salvaged not more than 40 or 50 Fortresses which have a method of selfdestruction that reduces them to useless wreckage. The second Luftwaffe tactic is to use large twin-engined planes tiring rockets These are reported ro have been met by Fortresses raiding Regensburg last week.
